About Dr. Elisa Joy Seibert

Getting to know Dr. Elisa Joy Seibert, Ph.D., M.Div.

Licensed Psychologist, Counselor Educator, ICEEFT Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor (she/her)

I have been a therapist since 1996 and love coming alongside couples just like you to help you heal and grow. I am also passionate about Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT has transformed my world and I’d love to help you discover its power too!

The Short Version:

I am a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania, and I specialize in psychotherapy for couples with relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, adjustment difficulties, identity development, parenting, self-care, and stress management. I utilize EFT (which is an emotionally focused, attachment-based approach), as well as the integration of DBT and spirituality, based on the needs of the client. I welcome couples from all walks of life and am intentional to offer warm, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed treatment. I am an ICEEFT Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist and Supervisor who specializes in using EFT to help couples with their connection, including those wanting to shift out of negative cycles, strengthen their emotional bond, and recover from affairs and other attachment injuries.

If this sounds like what you are wanting, reach out and let’s talk! I am always glad to have a phone conversation before starting counseling so you can get a sense of me and we can together make sure that what I offer is a good fit for you and what you need.

The Longer Version:

I have done counseling with little kids through older adults, with individuals, couples, and families, and have primarily worked with older adolescents and adults. For years I did mostly individual therapy, … and then I discovered EFT. I got captivated! It has such a clear roadmap, with solid research under it (so we know it works!!), and I found that it helps people change faster than with individual therapy because the most powerful source of soothing (and often the deepest source of pain) is right there in the room with them at the same time… changing together! And because Attachment is underneath so much of how we feel about ourselves and others, it makes sense to use it to get to the heart of the matter! I did the hard work to get Certified as an EFT therapist (four years of training, a very rigorous process), shifted my whole practice around to just working with couples, and have since gone on to get Certified as an EFT Supervisor and train other therapists! I am passionate about this stuff! I do frequent continuing education trainings in EFT to keep honing my skills so I can give you high quality EFT. And I am a Co-founder and Community Builder in my local EFT Community, living this stuff out in connection with other EFT therapists. I let you know this so you can have confidence that I have a lot to offer you when you come to me for couples therapy.

Additionally, on a personal level, I have been married for over 30 years (with three kids), so I experientially understand the journey of connection and attachment over time.

In terms of my cultural background, I am multicultural at heart, having grown up among people from all over the world. I have also lived in China and Kenya and have been transformed in connection with my siblings from around the world.

Besides having the training of a counselor, I also have the training of a pastor. So, I feel comfortable with spirituality. I name that to let you know that if faith is important to you and you would like that integrated in our journey, we can make space for that part of you. And if it is not a big part of your world, no worries. I will follow your lead on that.

I am also a cis-gendered, heterosexual, white woman who has made it a point in my life to come with an open, curious heart to step into the felt-experiences of and learn from people from a wide range of life realities. I welcome couples from all walks of life and orientations, and provide safe, inclusive space to bring your whole self in all of your many-splendored facets.

In journeying with you, I will be delighted to be curious with you about your own cultural, etc., background and how those parts of you play into who you are as person in your couple relationship.

So, those are a few things about me. Below are some additional fun facts and professional facts. If you find you need to know something else to feel comfortable working with me, just reach out and ask! I look forward to exploring how I might come alongside you and your partner to help you discover and transform your connection together!

Fun Facts:

  • To renew, I love to grab a camera and walk outside in nature! There is something exhilarating about trying to capture the beauty of the great outdoors. (Some of the photography on this site is mine! :>)

  • My family and I have raised Monarch butterflies every year for the past decade. I love these beautiful creatures, their courage, how hard they work to survive, and their delicate nature. It is a joy to hold one (carefully!) and photograph its early hours of discovery outside its chrysalis.

  • Walking with friends is my favorite way to exercise! I get three needs met at the same time: support/connection with trusted friends (leaning in!), exercise, and time in nature!

  • I love hiking outdoors with my very best friend, my wonderful husband of 30+ years, who has experientially taught me what secure attachment is all about.

  • Hiking in tall mountains amidst wildflowers and snow pack is my favorite!

  • I find it life-giving to walk for hours in the early morning along the sandy beaches of Lake Erie at Presque Isle State Park, hunting for beach-glass and listening to the soothing sound of the waves.

  • If I can’t manage to do the above activities, I like to sew, play piano, and spend time with family playing games and reading books aloud together.
